Social Worker – Family Start (Fixed Term until June 2026)

Empower Whānau | Support Tamariki | Champion Early Childhood Wellbeing

We are looking for a compassionate and passionate Social Worker to join our Family Start Programme at Te Kupenga in Avondale. This is a fixed-term role (37.5 hours per week) until June 2026.


About Us

ATWC (Anglican Trust for Women & Children) is a well-established charitable trust with over 160 years of service to families in our community. Guided by the values of Aroha, Whakawhanaungatanga, Kaitiakitanga, Māiatanga, Tumanako, we deliver multi-disciplinary services that support tamariki and whānau across Auckland.


About the Role

The Family Start Programme delivers an intensive home-visiting service to families with children aged 0–5 years, supporting their health, education, safety, and child development.

You will work with diverse whānau, including those facing challenges such as mental health, addiction, family violence, parenting, and child developmental needs. Our approach is holistic, culturally responsive, and strengths-based, recognising that whānau are the experts in their own lives.


What We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will need to:

  • Demonstrate cultural humility and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including Tino Rangatiratanga, Pātuitanga, Mana Taurite, Whakamarumarutia, and Kōwhiringa in your mahi

  • Hold or be working towards a degree in Social Work

  • Have experience working with children and families (preferred)

  • Understand working with trauma, family violence, addictions, and mental health (preferred)

  • Communicate effectively; speakers of multiple languages encouraged

  • Hold a full, current, and clear driver’s licence

  • Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand
