Youth Worker in Secondary Schools (YWiSS) | Part-Time
Strengthen Tamariki | Support Whānau | Champion Educational Success
Working as part of the Social Worker in Schools (SWiS) programme, you will focus on strengthening the wellbeing, safety, and educational success of tamariki by working closely with them, their whānau, and the wider school community.
This role centres on building high-trust relationships, understanding the unique strengths and challenges of each family, and developing practical, strengths-based plans that support positive and sustainable change. You will work in partnership with school staff and community networks to help create a safe and supportive environment where tamariki can thrive.
As an active member of both the school and ATWC teams, you will contribute to a community where children and families feel valued, heard, and supported to achieve improved outcomes.

About the Role
As a Social Worker in Schools, you will:

Provide strengths-based, child-centred support within a school setting
-
Undertake assessments and develop practical, achievable support plans

Work in partnership with tamariki, whānau, school staff, and community agencies
-
Build trusting and respectful relationships with children and families
-
Promote child safety, wellbeing, and engagement in education
-
Maintain accurate and timely case notes, documentation, and professional records
-
Contribute positively as a member of both the school and ATWC teams
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications

Recognised Social Work qualification
-
Registration with the Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB)

Full, clean NZ Driver Licence
-
Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong assessment and planning capability

Confidence engaging with whānau from diverse cultural backgrounds
